1. The Historic Azalea Trail Tour

Following the colorful and historic Azalea Trail is an 87-year-old two-day event organized by the River Oaks Garden Club. The trail meanders through spectacular gardens filled with flowering azaleas in every shade of white, yellow, pink, purple, and red imaginable. See magnificent historic architecture, including the Rienzi House Museum and Gardens, the Bayou Bend House Museum and Gardens, and beautiful mansions along the way.

The trail also includes gardening advice from the members of the River Oaks Garden Club at their headquarters in the Forum of Civics, a building on the National Register of Historic Places.

The River Oaks Garden Club is at 62503 Westheimer Road in Houston. The two-day Azalea Tour is usually on a Friday and Saturday at the beginning of March from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m

2. Bayou City Arts Festival

The annual Bayou City Arts Festival is Houston’s premier art event and one of the city’s most iconic spring festivals. The three-day outdoor festival features artworks from more than 300 artists, interactive activities, live entertainment on two stages, and a food truck park that offers a wide selection of delicious fare. Young artists can roll up their sleeves, get creative at the popular Champion Energy Active Imagination Zone, and create artwork to take home.

The annual Bayou City Arts Festival is held over the last weekend in March at 6501 Memorial Drive in Houston. The festival starts at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. Entry for children between the ages of five and ten is free.

3. The Houston Art Car Parade

Join the festivities at the legendary 36th annual Houston Art Car Parade, the oldest and largest of its kind in the world that attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators. Watch over 250 incredible art cars roll by and line up to show off their unique and creative designs.

The vibrant event includes plenty of fun children’s activities, a parade, live music, and an array of food trucks. One of the highlights is the Art Car Ball at The Orange Show facility at 2401 Munger Street, where illuminated art cars will be on display.

The Houston Art Car Parade is a free two-day weekend event held along Allen Parkway and Discovery Green Park at 1500 McKinney Street in downtown Houston every year around the middle of April.
