1) Brazos Bend State Park

3) Galveston Island State Park

Located an hour from Houston along the coast on the western side of Galveston Island, this 2,000-acre park has campgrounds, hiking trails, bird watching, and unsupervised swimming. Visiting Galveston Island along your way can be just as exciting as the park itself with its many attractions that include museums, an educational theme park, and many shops and restaurants. Come stroll along the beach and even jump in the water with this amazing day or camping trip.

4) Village Creek State Park

The cypress swamps this creek offers has opportunities for all sorts of outdoor activities including bird watching, camping, canoeing, and fishing. This park is located in the Piney Woods 10 miles north of Beaumont next to the Big Thicket. Rentals of watercraft are available daily from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm weather permitting, so be sure to remember your swimsuit. The rentals include stand-up paddleboards, one and two-person kayaks, and canoes.

5) Sea Rim State Park

This beach park is found along the Gulf of Mexico in southern Jefferson County. After recovering from multiple hurricanes, Sea Rim State Park has reopened! This incredible park includes 5.2 miles of shoreline and 4,000 acres of marshland. Enjoy the park camping sites, a lodge, or primitive camping on the beach.
