Diagnostic Excellence: Keeping Your Lincoln in Peak Condition

It's never a good idea to wait until something is wrong with your car to have it checked out. Diagnostic testing is an important part of proactive maintenance that can help you keep your vehicle in great condition and avoid unnecessary repairs. We cover what you need to know below, plus why having diagnostics done by your local Lincoln dealer has more benefits than taking your car to the regular mechanic. What Is Diagnostic Testing, and How Does It Work? Diagnostic assessments were first introduced to the auto industry in 1968 and involves checking the technical condition of an automobile or its parts without having to disassemble any part of the vehicle. This is done using a computerized device that connects to a car's On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system. Any issue that the OBD has logged will be displayed on the device's screen or printed out as an error code. If there are replacement parts, their serial numbers will also be listed, so the dealership can easily order them and have the vehicle repaired. This means your service can be completed faster, and you can get back on the road as soon as possible. Some of the most common diagnostic errors include: P00BB -- Fuel Injector Insufficient Flow P0127 -- Intake Air Temperature Too High P0129 -- Barometric Pressure Too Low P0149 -- Fuel Delivery Error P0314 -- Single Cylinder Misfire P0A0F -- Engine Failed to Start more When Should I Have My Vehicle Tested? Your car should be tested regularly to catch any problems early enough to prevent damage to your vehicle or put your safety at risk. Having your car quickly scanned every three months or so (quarterly) is ideal, but you can also go every 6 months if your car is newer. If you're buying a used vehicle, you should also have diagnostics done before finalizing your purchase. This can help you identify serious but hidden issues that you may want to avoid taking on yourself. Top Benefits of Having a Lincoln Dealer Test Your Car While you can schedule testing with just about any local mechanic you can find, this may not necessarily be the best course of action. This is especially true if you have a Lincoln. Not only do the team members employed at a dealership have more knowledge about your vehicle, they also have better access to branded replacement parts, so you can trust that your car is in great hands. Contact Bayway Lincoln in Houston, TX now for more information on why vehicle diagnostics are crucial for maintaining the performance and value of your Lincoln. You can also call to schedule testing or stop by our location on Gulf Freeway, across from Gringo's Mexican Kitchen. Image Via

Essential Wheel Alignment Services for Lincoln Vehicles

Essential Wheel Alignment Services for Lincoln Vehicles

The famously smooth, precise handling of a Lincoln is provided largely by the finely engineered alignment of the wheels. However, over time, it's possible for slight knocks and bumps to edge your Lincoln's wheels fractionally out of alignment, which can start to hinder your steering. Let's look at the importance of routine wheel alignment at your local Lincoln dealership, including several warning signs that your wheels aren't as perfectly parallel as they should be. Essential Wheel Alignment Services for Lincoln Vehicles How Wheels Become Crooked Jarring impacts with potholes, curbs, parking stanchions, and even rough patches of the road are a major cause of misaligned wheels. While a single knock might not cause any noticeable harm, continual impacts over the months begin to take their toll. Uneven or improperly inflated tires can also cause alignment issues, as can worn-out suspension parts: the components tasked with holding the wheels in the correct position. These factors affect the alignment in most cars, so much so that it's unusual for a driver to go more than a year or two without requiring realignment. more Symptoms of Misaligned Wheels When one or more of your wheels is out of position on the camber, toe, or caster angles, you're likely to notice worsening handling. Your steering wheel may become looser in your hands, not turning your car with quite as much accuracy as usual. Sometimes, the steering wheel can become pushed out of its properly centered position, requiring constant pressure to maintain a straight course. You might even find your car drifting to one side when you're trying to drive straight, and your tires will start wearing down unevenly. How To Realign Your Wheels As misalignment can create a safety hazard while also harming connected car parts, it's important to have your wheels set straight as soon as you notice a problem. Our experienced technicians will connect a sophisticated computerized alignment machine to each wheel and, using the machine's precise measurements, make adjustments to the suspension until each wheel is perfectly straight once more. Any underlying faults can also be identified and promptly repaired. Schedule Regular Alignment Checks at Your Lincoln Dealership Rather than waiting for one of the aforementioned, and rather dramatic, symptoms of misalignment, it's wise to have your alignment routinely checked twice a year. That way, our technicians will notice and correct even very slight misalignment before it develops into a more frustrating or hazardous problem. Most drivers only need their wheels to be realigned every one or two years. Visit Bayway Lincoln in Houston, TX, today to have your car's alignment checked and corrected. Image Via

Lincoln Navigator Hybrid Maintenance: Ensuring Long-Term Efficiency

Lincoln Navigator Hybrid Maintenance: Ensuring Long-Term Efficiency

Luxury vehicles don't feel so luxurious when they don't get the right maintenance to keep them working at their best. That's why you need to stay on top of your Lincoln Navigator hybrid maintenance. Hybrids need similar maintenance to combustion engine vehicles, but there are some key differences that you should know about. Regardless of what maintenance your car needs, your Lincoln dealer can take care of all of it. Lincoln Navigator Hybrid Maintenance: Services You Need from Your Lincoln Dealer Regular Oil Changes Hybrid vehicles don't rely only on the battery to power the car. They also still use an internal combustion engine. Having an engine like this means oil changes are needed. The Navigator has an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that'll tell you when your car needs an oil change. Always get your oil changed within two weeks of your vehicle informing you that it's time for new oil. How often you'll need an oil change depends on how much you drive. You may be able to drive over 10,000 miles before needing an oil change, equating to getting one once a year for the average driver. more Battery Care Hybrid vehicles have two batteries to be taken care of. Check on them regularly to look for signs of corrosion, which shows up on your battery's terminals as blue, green, teal, or white residue. This corrosion can be cleaned off with baking soda and water, and applying petroleum jelly before reattaching your battery's cables can help stop corrosion from coming back. Avoid leaving your car out in high temperatures, as heat can damage the batteries. It's important to visit your dealer regularly to have your battery inspected by a professional. Our technicians need to assess your battery's health, checking for issues such as degradation and imbalanced cells. Unlike with combustion engine vehicles, though, the battery usually doesn't need to be replaced during the car's lifespan and may even outlast the car. However, sometimes problems may still arise, so make sure you visit the dealer regularly. Brake Inspections The brakes on hybrid cars are designed to last a long time: sometimes longer than in combustion engine vehicles. You still need to have your brakes inspected by a professional at least once a year during your annual service. Getting them checked more often, such as when you visit the dealer for tire rotations twice a year, is never a bad thing, though. If there's ever anything wrong with the brakes, then the technicians will happily repair the problem. Whether you currently drive a hybrid or are considering getting one, come to Bayway Lincoln in Houston, TX for everything you need. We can help you with maintenance, buying a new car, and even financing. Image Via

Expert Tire Care and Maintenance at Your Lincoln Dealership

Your tires are subject to constant abrasion when driving, and they suffer additional damage from exposure to heat, cold, rain, mud, and sunlight. Tires can also be damaged by issues like incorrect balance or poor alignment. As your Lincoln dealership, we want to tell you a few signs you need to visit us for tire maintenance and potential replacement. Signs You Need To Visit Your Lincoln Dealership for Tire Maintenance Tire Bubble A tire bubble is a raised air-filled lump on a tire. They form when part of a tire is jammed against a solid object or its internal structure breaks down due to a defect. Bubbles are more likely to form on the sidewall, as the rubber in this area is softer and lacks reinforcement, but they can appear anywhere on a tire. A bubble is dangerous, as the air inside your tires heats up due to the friction produced with the surface. Since the rubber over a bulge is stretched thin, increased internal pressure inside the tire can rupture the bubble, causing a blowout and potential accident. We can't repair a bubble, but we can replace the tire so you can drive safely. more Overinflated Tires Overinflated tires are just as dangerous to drive on as underinflated tires. Your tires have a specific pressure determined by the designers that provides the best performance and safety for your vehicle. If your tires have too much air, they will wear out sooner than necessary. The increased internal pressure forces the tire sides to curl upward, placing excessive weight and strain on the center of the tread. Overinflated tires are a safety risk, as the air inside will heat up when driving, as we saw above, and could result in a blowout. We can easily correct the tire pressure and examine your tires to determine if they've been damaged. If you need a replacement tire, we can install and balance a new tire for you. Visible Wear Bars Wear bars are part of a tire's design and help identify worn tread. The bars are raised rubber sections that run horizontally through the tread. They can't be seen on a new tire but will slowly become visible at the tread level declines due to wear and tear. If you look at your tires and see the wear bars, you can quickly test to see if your tires are worn. Run one of your fingers across the tread and the visible bar. If the bar is below the tread level, your tread is still healthy but worn. If the bar is level with the tread, your tire needs replacement. We'll check your tires and can replace any that are worn. When a potential collision is spotted, the SUV will automatically stop if you don't respond to the collision warning in time. Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control This adaptive cruise control feature allows drivers to set a preferred cruising speed to effortlessly maintain momentum in long-range driving situations. This model can maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead of you, even in heavy stop-and-go traffic. This system is supported by lane-centering technology to prevent lane drifting while the cruise control is engaged. Evasive Steering Assist The Corsair also helps you avoid accidents by using Evasive Steering Assist. This advanced system uses sensors and various cameras to identify unavoidable frontal collisions and either automatically stop your SUV or temporarily control the steering wheel to help swerve around an accident in certain situations. This system can steer around vehicles that abruptly stop or large obstacles in the road. Some of the Lincoln Corsair's key driver assistance technologies are designed to semi-automate your daily driving routine, such as automatic high-beam headlights, while other features are intended to help prevent collisions by detecting potential obstacles with enough time for you to hit the brakes. Lincoln Co-Pilot360: Navigating Advanced Driving Assistance Features

Lincoln Co-Pilot360: Navigating Advanced Driving Assistance Features

Every Lincoln includes the Lincoln ADAS, which stands for Advanced Driver-Assistance System. It's called Co-Pilot360 and is a range of safety features designed to monitor areas around your vehicle and warn of danger. This gives you time to react and prevent an accident. Some of these proactively react for you to keep you safe. We're going to look at some of the features you'll find in your Lincoln. Co-Pilot360: The Lincoln ADAS That Protects You and Your Passengers Auto High Beam Headlamps These revolutionary headlamps can automatically shift between high and low beams. When driving on a dark road at night, high beams are essential as they give you a clear view of the road and any vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles ahead of you. Unfortunately, they can also temporarily blind other drivers, and this can cause an accident. Sensors in your headlamps can detect the tail lights or oncoming lights of other vehicles, and the system instantly switches to low beams. Once the detected lights have disappeared, the headlamps return to high beams. The sensors can also detect fog or falling snow and shift to low beams to prevent reflected glare from these weather conditions. more Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking This system uses a front-facing camera and radar to identify vehicles in front of you. If a vehicle is identified, the system calculates the distance between you and the other vehicle. It then assesses the vehicle's speeds and determines if a collision risk exists. If a collision is likely, you'll hear warning beeps and a warning icon appears on your screen. These warnings give you enough time to react and prevent an accident. As a failsafe, the system automatically applies hard braking to bring your Lincoln to an instant stop if necessary. Stopping your vehicle will hopefully prevent or reduce the effects of a collision. Blind Spot Information System and Cross-Traffic Alert Blind spots are the areas around your vehicle that are impossible to see from the driver's seat, even with the help of the side and rearview mirrors. A vehicle that enters a blind spot has traditionally been impossible to see, and this has been the cause of numerous accidents over the years. This system prevents that from happening. Sensors are installed to cover all blind spot areas. They continually watch for any vehicle entering their field of view, and a warning will sound if you attempt to change lanes and another vehicle appears in a blind spot. This warning enables you to shift back into your original lane and avoid an accident. The cross-traffic feature uses sensors that scan for vehicles, pedestrians, or objects when you back up. These are just a handful of the systems and features that make driving safer. If you'd like to know more, contact us today at Bayway Lincoln in Houston, TX. Image Via
